Just when you thought that Tiktik was bad-ass, wait ‘till you see this. GMA Films never outdid themselves since Muro Ami. It’s great seeing them back in making an awesome film. I just wish that we won’t wait for more than a decade for another GMA classic.

MY BIG BOSSING
Despite the awards received, Vic Sotto
had a tough year because of the hate mails and bad reviews about My Little
Bossings. Now that Kris Aquino and the never-ending product placements are gone,
can he redeem himself and keep the Christmas tradition alive?
FENG SHUI 2
This is perhaps the most intriguing
entry of this year’s MMFF. I love how I was able to discuss this with critics
and Star Cinema fans. Most people who liked the first part were disappointed
with this. Some liked this film and others are just okay with it.
ENGLISH ONLY, PLEASE
The film started strong with the introduction of Jennylyn Mercado’s Tere. The usual Jadaone female lead. You know, tatanga-tanga. But what’s different from her is that there is the sex element involved in her katangahan. It’s slightly more matured than Tadhana and more graphic than Mayohan. But this is still a love story. We were introduced to Rico who was perfectly portrayed by Kean Cipriano. I remember teenagers in the theatre saying, “Tangina talaga ng mga ganyan, talaga! So relate. Ipapapanood ko ito kina besties.” and I was like, “Bitch, you know nothin!” in Chris Rock’s voice.

SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL XV
A lot of things have changed since that disappointing experiment by Chito Roño two years ago. Can SRR redeem
itself or is this the end of one of my favorite Christmas traditions?

VIOLATOR
Forgive me, Father, for I have seen…
In times like these, man is highly exposed to deaths and sin. We hear
news about rapes, murders and corruptions as if it’s part of our daily habit.
Zero-crime rate is as rare as a legendary pokémon and people are losing their
faith in mankind. Probably most of you have asked yourself, “Is there a God?”

THAT THING CALLED TADHANA
This is a
story of an iskandalosa meets a burgis
Let me tell you upfront that this is the HUGOT film of the year. Most chick-flicks
revolve around the blossoming of love. Others focus in the moving on process.
This ‘feelm’ tried to cross those boundaries and let everyone know that both of
them can’t just happen on the same day.
RED
♫ I’m sure they’d think again if
they had a friend like Red ♫
Nowadays, the first expectation for local action films is that it has
to be as action-packed as On The Job where there has to be shoot-outs, chase
scenes and loosely-based on true story characters. Malupet din ito… pero hindi
ito putang inang OTJ.
HINDI SILA TATANDA
Warning: This review is full of shit
There are two types of people who will walk out and say positive things
about the film. Those who truly appreciate its art, which I can’t mess with
because they have their reasons, and those who are afraid to tell the truth
because they might get mugged by a swarm of weed-smokers, meta-hipsters,
critical thinkers and ultra-multiverse pretentious fucks. Well, I’m neither of
them and I speak for the people who say that this shit is booooooooring!
ESPRIT DE CORPS
♫ Esprit de Corps, Esprit de Corps, Can’t
hold it back anymore ♫
To tell you the truth, I’m quite a homophobe when
it comes to this kind of film. As much as people are praising Quick Change,
Kasal and other films with men-to-men nudity, I still didn’t see them. I love
Maximo Oliveros and Rent but there was something inside of me that’s afraid of
seeing gay films in a theatre. Because of the intriguing teaser and positive
reviews from some of my friends, I finally went out and saw a gay-themed film
on the big screen.

BIG HERO 6
Ohayou Goodmorning-imasu!
Disney’s recent animated movies have a trend. Tangled then
Wreck-It-Ralph then Frozen then this. While Wreck-It-Ralph is for gamers, Big
Hero 6 are for the nerds, those who doesn’t have time to play videogames
because they’re too busy experimenting stuffs and watching Big Bang Theory. It’s
origin story is also for the comic book fans. Mixing things up with Marvel, this
is the first action-packed Disney animation since The Incredibles but it didn’t
fully commit to the two studios. It tried to mix them in a safe, crowd-pleasing
way.
QCX 2014
Dreamers, achievers and Ka-Barbers. Five short films made up
my first QCinema experience. Majority of the reviews will be in English but I
also used some Filipino words to further express my thoughts. This won’t be in
chronological order.
