This is perhaps the most intriguing
entry of this year’s MMFF. I love how I was able to discuss this with critics
and Star Cinema fans. Most people who liked the first part were disappointed
with this. Some liked this film and others are just okay with it.
Take note that this is Coco Martin’s movie,
sort of. The long first act revolves around his blessings from the bagua like
Joy did in the predecessor. Then, there’s the first blood and Kris Aquino
enters the screen. Second act are two different movies. One’s a very long
exposition on how the bagua works, another are the killings that happened in
between. None of the deaths are memorable but how some characters look at the
bagua are fun to watch. Coco and Kris are just okay. Acting was there but
Joonee Gamboa brought life to the movie. Without him, it will just be a bland
Final Destination rip-off. There was one jump-scare with the ghost of Rez
Cortez that was surprised me and Cherry Pie Picache’s backstory is interesting.
The last act will divide the audience
but for me, it’s laugh-out-loud. It’s like Chito Roño gave up making sense and
made the most ridiculous climax possible. I’m heavily laughing at Ian
Veneracion’s moment up to the very end. My only problem is that Diana Zubiri
and the mobsters didn’t appear. Cinematography and sound editing is great but WTF will people see in 4D cinemas? Product placements are there, as usual. I like how it ended, no matter how clichéd it
was and I love the stinger in the end credits. Digital na ang bagua.
Feng Shui 2 is nowhere near as good as its
predecessor but the intentional absurdity makes it enjoyable to watch. Less
logic, more fun for a horror film that makes fun of ridiculous beliefs.
