WHIPLASH

And if you wanna be a teacher’s pet, well baby you just better forget it
No doubt that this is the underdog film of the 87th Academy Awards. It’s a crowd-pleaser but the inspirational story, superb acting, uplifting music and enthralling cinematography made this bag Sundance's major awards.

THE MOVIE BUD RATING SYSTEM

Bigger, juicier and livelier than before. The E-Reviews levelled-up to bring you the freshest reviews and to satisfy your cravings for better films. Why did I created The Movie Bud? It’s because I want to create a site with a centralized theme… and what better motif there is than food. Expect more gimmicks and food puns. For starters, let me introduce you to the TMB Rating System.
THE LEGENDAIRY
These are the crème de la crème of movies. I always believe that the best films are not only intelligent and entertaining. They need to have a lasting impact. They should be timeless and legen-waitforit-dary!
Example: Back to the Future, Spirited Away, Scarface, The Avengers and Gone Girl
THE BACONTASTIC
Addictive is the most suitable word for this category. These movies are so good, you’d pay to see them again. They are awesome, exquisite and/or highly recommendable but aren’t good enough to be considered as one of the greats.
Example: Blade Runner, Wall-E, School of Rock, Hancock and Whiplash
THE TASTY BURGER
The Fresh Tomato. The passing rate. The OKAY. They are entertaining enough for your time, effort and money but they’re recommendable for one-time viewing only (or for many times in TV).
Example: Men in Black, Despicable Me, Pitch Perfect, Thor and The Fault in Our Stars
THE TAKE-OUT
You might as well download or catch these on TV for free than spend some money in cinemas because they’re either forgettable or extremely mediocre. However, some of them are good but they’re super boring to watch in theatres.
Example: Pacific Rim, Brave, The Da Vinci Code, Fantastic Four and Annabelle
THE ROTTEN EGG
Yucky, smelly, horrible films. They’re not recommendable to anyone but some of them are hilariously bad and inoffensive.
Example: After Earth, Planet 51, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Green Lantern and The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure
THE SHITBRICK
If the Rotten Egg is not recommendable, the Shitbrick should be defecated from our memories.
Example: Movie 43, Disaster Movie, Catwoman and Identity Thief

So how does the new ratings differ from the previous one? Simple. The rating system today is based on memorability and quality combined, unlike last time where it’s purely quality-wise. Expect more 5/5’s from now on and lesser 3/5’s. There are also new gimmicks in the site like the REVIEW ALA CARTE (Full Review), the COMBO REVIEW (miniReview w/ related films), the SPECIAL ORDER (other happenings related to film) and the FULLY LOADED REVIEW (miniReviewCalypse).
